"Fully-realized works of lightly rock-laced electronic dance music."
"Intensely personal music that somehow
creates a space for [its] audience to self-reflect on
their own experiences with a range of emotions."
- all things go
"Minimalistic songs with maximum emotional power.
They're the kind of tunes that creep up on you and somehow
have you rethinking love, life, and more in under three minutes."
"Shapes In Calgary operate within a wide well of
melodic empathy and strong songcraft

For Immediate Release: June 26, 2018

Shapes In Calgary is Gary and Alyssa Atturio--a producer and vocalist based in Brooklyn who make spacious electro indie-pop for fans of Emily Haines, Wet, and Chvrches. Today the duo have shared "U Do," a track off of their forthcoming new 'Here' EP, out July 20. [pressss quote heeere].

"U Do," the band says, is about the magic of mistakes; "That feeling of waking up in the morning after staying up all night, and knowing that you did something stupid, but also knowing there's no way you can hide it. Those mornings have a grimy-sweet feel to them, which we tried to mimic through the production."

Shapes in Calgary write "minimalistic songs with maximum emotional power" (Consequence of Sound) that "operate within a wide well of melodic empathy and strong songcraft" (Blah Blah Blah Science). PopMatters describes their songs as "fully-realized works of lightly rock-laced electronic dance music."

The songs on Shapes In Calgary's debut EP Happy Now (2016) were written using only a drum machine and an '80s synth, and then friends and collaborators Tim McCoy (Darwin Deez, Field Mouse) and Billy Libby fleshed out the songs with drums and guitars, respectively. On the new EP, Gary and Alyssa have collaborated with producer Nick Krill (Spinto Band, Teen Men), whom Gary met last year through playing with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and mix engineer Chris Cubeta.
