"It's easy to make something scary, but its harder to make something unsettling into something beautiful. Rat & Co's video for 'Vocal Insanity' does just this."
Rat & Co is the musical brainchild of Joshua Delaney (Chet Faker, SMILE), who, together with guitarists Kaia McCarthy-Smith, John Waller, and drummer Nick Park, creates electronic, ambient, moody, and delicate cinematic soundscapes.
Last month, Rat & Co released the first single from their highly anticipated sophomore LP 'Binary' that's due for release this June. On "Vocal Insanity", haunting ambient textures melt into slow jam beats -- it's a fusion of pitched-down samples, house beats, and underground hip-hop. The clip, premiering today on Noisey, lends a darker feel to the track with continuous, seemingly random, black and white clips that are simultaneously uncomfortable and pleasing to watch. "Vocal Insanity" signals a deeper richness to Rat & Co's experimental layers.
It's been exactly one year since the Melbourne-based band released their debut album ‘One (壱) Uno (壹) Ein’, which was met with critical acclaim in print and online and with solid airplay on triple j, FBi, and more. The band won praise from fellow musicians Darkside, Gold Panda, and Snakadaktal, and have garnered a reputation as one of Melbourne's best live exports after supporting Chet Faker on his 2013 European tour. Today it is announced that the band will support Chet Faker on his upcoming Australian national tour in support of his new LP Built on Glass - currently #4 on the ARIA Album Chart after spending two weeks at #1.
